Jurisdictions of the Marshal's Office

Territorial: City of Bastrop and Wards 3 & 4 of Morehouse Parish
Monetary: $5,000 limit for small claims suit. $15,000 limit on all suits (Suit without pleadings may be filed with or without an attorney).
Criminal: The Marshal's Office and the City Court prosecute matters that are not punishable by hard labor.
Trials: Try criminal cases that do not require jury trials.

The Marshal's Office carries out daily assignments with courage and authority. We ensure a secure environment for city court and provide personal protection for the judge and his staff. The Marshal's office has proud law enforcement professionals with a distinguished history. We take pride in serving our community and do it with professionalism. We are an entity that surpasses the "Service Above and Beyond" the call of duty in handling our responsibilities and going that "EXTRA MILE" to make a difference. WE WILL GET IT DONE. We are the First called, the First criticized, and the Last recognized. But, this does not stop us from doing the "best job" we can do. It only drives us to work even harder until the job is completed.

City Marshal's Office Functions

> Serve as Executive Officer of the Bastrop City Court
> Administer the activities of the Bastrop Marshal’s Office
> Enforce the orders of the Bastrop City Court both civil and criminal
> Serves as bailiff of the City Court in civil and criminal matters
> Seize and sale property under order of the Bastrop City Court
> Seize and disburse monies through garnishments ordered by the Court
